Kennebunkport Maine - The Maine Stay Inn & Cottages - Bed and Breakfast Lodging

About the
Maine Stay Inn

"A Kennebunkport inn welcoming guests since 1946, the gracious Maine Stay Inn is an elegant bed and breakfast and listed on the National Register of Historic Places."

A Kennebunkport inn welcoming guests since 1946 and the perfect choice for a romantic weekend getaway. The Maine Stay Inn & Cottages at the Melville Walker House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Now a romantic bed and breakfast, this stately former sea captain's home offers the grace and splendor of a bygone era.

Built in 1860 on property given to him by his father, Captain Melville Walker made this beautiful home his personal family residence. The grandson of one of the earliest Kennebunkport families, Captain Walker was a merchant sea captain who sailed around the world, often bringing his wife, Abbie, and children with him on his journeys. Highly respected, Captain Walker was known as a fastidious navigator and savvy merchant. His grand home and its spacious landscaped lawns now welcome guests from around the globe.

The Maine Stay Inn & Cottages at the Melville Walker House offers a rich variety of bed and breakfast inn accommodations. Guest rooms and suites in the historic main house evoke a character and allure of a bygone era. Five New England style cottage buildings  surround the property.  Each building is one story high and contains either two or three cottage suites, offering privacy and tranquility.  Each cottage suite is uniquely and exquisitely decorated.

The comforts of modern life are tastefully present in each of our guest quarters. Each room or suite offers firm beds, private baths, fluffy towels, specialty soaps and amenities, TV/VCR or flat panel TV/DVD, free wireless Internet access to guests traveling with their laptops, hair dryers, wine openers, wine glasses and daily housekeeping service with attention to detail. Some have fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, kitchens or breakfast rooms. All are air conditioned in the summer.

We serve a traditional New England breakfast with hot entrees such as piping hot Maine Blueberry Pancakes or our special Spinach Tomato Quiche, freshly baked muffins and scones, juice, fresh fruits, teas and coffee. Breakfast is served in the dining room or, in summer, on the porch. Guests staying in our lovely cottage suites  may opt to have their breakfast delivered in a wicker basket!

In the summer, beach towels, umbrellas, beach passes and chairs are available for use by our guests. We also have a covered bicycle rack, off street parking, restaurant directory, and complimentary loan from our video or DVD collection.

Join us for afternoon tea on the sunny porch in summer or around a cozy fire on cooler days; a fun way to meet your fellow guests and innkeepers while enjoying coffee, tea or piping hot cider and desserts, and learning the history of The Maine Stay and surrounding Kennebunkport.

Exceptional warmth and hospitality greets you from the time you enter the front door. Let George and Janice, the Maine Stay Innkeepers help you plan your daily excursions and itinerary to make your stay a most enjoyable and memorable one. From the elegant breakfast, to the delightful afternoon tea, to your cozy room at night - The Maine Stay Inn Bed and Breakfast is the ideal base from which to explore Kennebunkport, enjoy the ports and beaches of this quaint seaside village or to take day trips to New Hampshire's White Mountains, Boston, Salem, or up the rocky coast to Portland, Freeport, Boothbay and Camden, ME.
